Caramel Brownies

Caramel Brownies

  • 1 pkg. caramels
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (for caramels - additional amount for brownie)
  • 1 German Chocolate cake mix
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)


Unwrap all caramels and melt in large saucepan with 1/2 cup evaporated milk. In a bowl, mix cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, butter and nuts. In a greased and floured 9 X 13 pan, put 1/2 of cake mixture using fingers to push out to edge of pan (it will be thin, but needs to cover entire bottom of pan). Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Pour caramel mixture over baked cake mixture (it does not need to be cooled). Sprinkle the rest of the cake mixture over the top, using your fingers to drop small amounts. Do not try to spread, it will do that as it cooks. Bake another 13-18 minutes. Cool before slicing.
